The video streaming platforms are pumping in huge amounts of money into getting web series made from producers around the world.
A lot of countries have producers making web series for their own audiences. Some are popular, some not so popular. But some web series even gain popularity beyond their own borders. Those countries with major film industries are managing to get their content an audience further afield. Bollywood, Hollywood, Chinese and Korean producers spring to mind. But there are more who manage to find a wider audience.
It's fascinating to see how some of these web series spread and gain popularity in foreign countries.
If you watch and enjoy a web series from a foreign country then you may try out other web series from there.
With cinemas in the UK, for example, there would be the odd cinema here and there that will show foreign (non-Hollywood) films. Now, the video streaming platforms are making it easy to view content from other countries. And you don’t know what content will go viral.
The streaming platforms allow producers to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Some content on the platforms you might not see in your cinemas. This making be why audiences are flocking to these platforms at the expense of the cinemas. This was the case even before the pandemic.
Cinemas generally tend to have the latest releases. But now some film producers are releasing first online.
As with other types of virtual events, the feel is not yet the same as seeing a movie in the cinema. But the technology is always improving.
Binge watching is now a thing. You can watch a whole season of a web series or whole series of films in one go. Scrolling through the platform to see what’s on offer is now more time consuming. You might even watch the same film again after some time. Part way through a web series, if some new film appears, you watch that instead.
When you watch movies or web series at home, observe how your viewing habits evolve.
